This week I met the artist Kalica Chhin. She is originally from Long Beach. In high school, Kalica took a 3D art class and fell in love with it. High School and that class is what sparked her energy to continue to do art. She doesn’t like to do other forms of art besides 3D art. What she like to do, is have people be very curious about her artwork. She likes them to take the time to think about what they are really looking at, which her sculpture did make me do. You kinda have to stare at it for awhile for you to really understand what you are looking at. I still did not understand what I was truly looking at.
Kalica has 2 sisters and 1 brother. Her siblings are not interested in art, but she said that they do encourage her to do art, and always supports her. She is a BFA student, which stands for bachelor of fine arts. It is a major that focuses mostly on sculpture. She has 2 more years to go to graduate.
Honestly, when I look at this piece it just looks like a big wall that needs to be shaved down. I understand that it is 3D and a sculpture, but I don’t get it. I am not trying to be rude, but it honestly just looks like private parts glued to a big wall. Kind of just too much going on.
